Inkoom Sounds Alarm as Black Stars Stumble in AFCON 2027 Qualifiers

Ghana legend Samuel Inkoom says team spirit is missing as the Black Stars sit bottom of Group C after back-to-back qualifying defeats.

Ghana legend Samuel Inkoom has fired a warning shot at the Black Stars, insisting the current crop must give everything for the shirt as their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign threatens to unravel.

The four-time AFCON nation opened Group C with a 2-0 loss to rivals Ivory Coast in Bouake. Things got worse in Accra, where Ghana let a two-goal lead slip against The Gambia and fell to a second straight defeat. The Black Stars now sit at the bottom of the table, and with the memory of missing the 2025 tournament still fresh, alarm bells are ringing.

Speaking on Obaapa Radio, the former Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak star did not hold back. Inkoom argued that the team spirit simply is not there, pointing to flashes of individual brilliance that are not translating into a cohesive unit. In his view, playing as a team remains the core problem.

Inkoom acknowledged that injuries disrupted preparations for both matches, but he refused to accept that as a cover story. Plenty of Ghana's players, he noted, are playing week in, week out at club level, so the quality and match sharpness should be there. His message to the squad was clear: serve the nation wholeheartedly.

With the group already tilting against them, the Black Stars need a response, and fast. For a football giant of West Africa, the pressure to turn words into points is only growing.
